Karl Hab (b. 1990) is a Paris-based photographer.
Growing up just outside of Paris, Karl studied aerospace engineering and his admiration for aviation and aircraft remains a recurring theme in his photographic work. But he has also spent more than 15 years directing his eye elsewhere: he can often be found taking pictures at events, exhibitions and fashion shows in Paris and internationally.
Karl instinctively gravitates towards action. His images show life in the French capital as it unfolds – from late nights strolling to early mornings gazing at tinned rooftops. His quest to document design, art and the latest lifestyle trends is insatiable.
For personal projects, Karl often focuses on street culture and travel, and has published several zines and books that attest to the nuance he imbues into each impactful shot. Moreover, his vision adapts to evoke each city’s unique character. With resolute precision, he can pinpoint a fleeting moment: the clean lines of a plane about to land; the speed of Hong Kong and Los Angeles; or something as pure and simple as a melting ice cream cone on a hot day.
Known for his low-profile approach in the creative industry, the self-proclaimed “SNAKE EYES” prefers to keep his guise in the background as he captures the world with his collection of cameras. What emerges, more than the obvious representation of an object or landscape, is his innate mastery of composition and stylized storytelling. Karl’s photos address familiar themes with a refreshingly dynamic point of view.
